Heritage background documents and guidelines

Our Heritage Management Plan 1996 was prepared by Andrew Ward, architectural historian, and it has helped shape planning scheme amendments from the 1990s until 2020 to ensure the future of our heritage properties and places.

The aim of the Heritage Management Plan

In commissioning the Heritage Management Plan we aim to:

  • identify, evaluate and document the built heritage of the City of Glen Eira
  • place it in the context of the history of Melbourne
  • assess its importance as a community resource
  • develop a comprehensive program for the conservation of Glen Eira’s heritage and its integration into the planning framework.

Planning scheme amendments

Using the Heritage Management Plan as a reference document, we have undertaken planning scheme amendments to include significant properties and precincts in the Heritage Overlay.
