At our Ordinary Council Meeting on Tuesday 28 April, Councillors considered several key topics focused on planning for Glen Eira’s future, environmental sustainability and the fair management of community spaces.
We explain some of the highlights from the meeting below.
We want your feedback on the draft 2026–27 Budget and draft Council Plan Action Plan.
These documents outline the services, projects and priorities we’re proposing to deliver next financial year, and how we plan to fund them.
The draft Budget includes continued investment in the things our community relies on every day, including roads, footpaths, parks, open space, libraries, leisure facilities and community services. It also supports long-term planning to help keep Glen Eira financially sustainable into the future.
The draft Council Plan Action Plan sets out key actions for the year ahead to keep delivering the four-year Council Plan.
We supported a submission to the Parliamentary Inquiry on Waste to Energy infrastructure in Victoria.
Waste to energy technology can help reduce the amount of waste sent to landfill by converting some waste materials into usable energy.
Our submission highlighted the importance of strong environmental protections, careful planning, transparent regulation and ensuring councils have a meaningful voice in decisions that may affect local communities.
It also recognised the need to prioritise waste reduction, reuse and recycling as part of a broader sustainable waste management approach.
We agreed to begin engagement with key stakeholders on the draft updated Leasing and Licensing Policy.
This policy helps guide how we manage leases and licences across Council-owned buildings, facilities and community spaces.
Through these arrangements, we support many community groups, sporting clubs, organisations and local services that use our facilities across Glen Eira.
The updated draft aims to create a clearer and more consistent approach to future decisions, while supporting fairness, transparency and community benefit.
