At our Ordinary Council Meeting on Tuesday 19 May, Councillors considered Glen Eira’s heritage planning.
We adopted the City of Glen Eira — Murrumbeena and Carnegie (part) Heritage Review, Volumes 1 and 2 (April 2026), as part of our ongoing work to better understand and protect Glen Eira’s local heritage.
The review explores how the area developed from largely rural land into established residential neighbourhoods throughout the early to mid-20th century, with post-World War II growth introducing a broader mix of housing styles including flats and units.
The review covers all of Murrumbeena and part of Carnegie, excluding properties already assessed through previous heritage reviews.
As part of the preliminary stage of the project, more than 5,600 properties were assessed.
Heritage reviews help identify places of local significance and inform future planning decisions, helping preserve the character and history of Glen Eira’s neighbourhoods.
