Protecting Glen Eira’s biodiversity
Our Biodiversity in Glen Eira 2018 Report (PDF, 3MB) and 2024 Report (PDF, _MB) explores the concentration of our biodiversity, what threatens and sustains it. We also developed a Biodiversity Plan 2018 (PDF, 401KB), which maps out how we’re addressing the report’s recommendations and increasing local biodiversity.

Visit our parks and reserve
Glen Eira is home to a range of parks, reserves and lakes, some of which are designated biodiversity hotspots or important biodiversity sites.
Biodiverse parks and reserves contain a higher concentration of indigenous plants and native wildlife than other areas of Glen Eira. These important habitats help support self-sustaining ecosystems and provide refuge for species that may struggle to survive in more urbanised environments.
Some hotspots and biodiverse sites include:
- Caulfield Racecourse Reserve (Caulfield) – wetlands open daily for the public within daylight hours and apart from major events
- Boyd Park and Sanctuary (Murrumbeena)
- Caulfield Park (Caulfield North) – visit the Woody Meadows, a project that used drought-tolerant Australian native species to create a low maintenance garden
- Elster Creek Trail and Allnut Park (McKinnon)
- Rippon Lea Lake and Surrounds (Elsternwick) – free entry for Glen Eira residents
