This tree fulfils the criteria of:

  • Unique location or context
  • Particularly old specimen
  • Aesthetic value

This Palm Tree is uniquely located in a prominent position at a major intersection and shopping strip. It makes a major contribution to the local landscape.

It is a particularly old example of a Date Palm in Glen Eira and can be identified in aerial photos of Melbourne from 1945.

The tree is striking and iconic in its location, situated in the forecourt of Murrumbeena TrainStation. It is highly visible from the surrounding area and makes a significant contribution to the neighbourhood character. The loss of this tree would represent a substantial loss of amenity to the community.
