Our Climate Emergency Response Strategy 2025–2029
Council has adopted our Climate Emergency Response Strategy for 2025–2029 — a powerful reaffirmation of the commitment we made back in 2020 when we declared a climate emergency.
It outlines the important work we’ll do to respond to what matters most to our community: cutting emissions, protecting nature, and creating safer, more liveable neighbourhoods.
The delivery of the Strategy is integrated into Council’s broader strategic planning, including the Glen Eira Council Plan 2025-2029. As a result, the actions in the Strategy align with seven Strategic Objectives from the Council Plan:
- Strategic Objective 1.4: Our community has improved physical and mental health and wellbeing
- Strategic Objective 2.2: Our places are safe, healthy and versatile
- Strategic Objective 3.1: Our urban greenery and biodiversity are enhanced
- Strategic Objective 3.2: Our air and waterways are healthy
- Strategic Objective 3.3: Council and community emissions are reduced
- Strategic Objective 3.4: Waste to landfill is reduced
- Strategic Objective 3.5: The community is actively engaged in Caring for Country and the natural environment
The Glen Eira Biodiversity Plan 2025-2029 sets out a series of actions to be undertaken by Council to preserve Glen Eira’s biodiversity, enhance its capacity to adapt to a changing climate and contribute to the broader biodiversity values of our region.
