Glen Eira stands in solidarity with the Jewish community and all those affected by this horrific act of violence.
Today, we observe the National Day of Mourning for the victims of the Bondi Beach terrorist attack, honouring the 15 lives tragically taken. The day is held under the theme “Light will win — a gathering of unity and remembrance.”
Glen Eira stands in solidarity with the Jewish community and all those affected by this horrific act of violence.
A nationwide minute’s silence will be held at 7.01pm this evening, and Glen Eira Town Hall will be lit yellow as a symbol of our community’s support, remembrance and unity.
We recognise the profound impact this attack has had on communities across the country, including here in Glen Eira. It has caused deep grief and distress, and reinforces the urgent need to confront rising antisemitism and strengthen social cohesion.
As the cultural heart of Victoria’s Jewish community, Glen Eira City Council reaffirms its unwavering commitment to a community free from hatred, fear and discrimination. We will continue to work closely with community organisations, Victoria Police and all levels of government to support safety, inclusion and respect for all.
I wncourage the Glen Eira community to undertake a Mitzvah, regardless of faith and background. In Jewish tradition, a Mitzvah is an act of kindness, compassion, and a moral responsibility. Helping others with everyday acts of kindness that together create a powerful wave of goodwill.
These acts can be simple — checking in on a neighbour, volunteering your time or supporting local businesses. Let us honour the victims with kindness and care for one another.
