Kimchi & Bab named Shop of the Year for 2023

Kimchi & Bab, a Caulfield restaurant specialising in Korean food, has been named Council’s Shop of the Year at the Business Excellence Awards.

The restaurant received the award for representing their commitment to safe-food practices and achieving the highest food-safety rating after being assessed by Council’s environmental health officers.

Glen Eira Mayor Cr Jim Magee presented owner In-Gurl Baek with a trophy at the ceremony on Wednesday 21 June.

Raw Galore café in Bentleigh East was named Shop of the Year Runner-up.

There were 10 finalists this year. Each business was nominated as the best performer in its category and was presented with a ‘Highly Commended’ certificate.

Five-Star Safe Food Program

Our Five-Star Safe Food Program demonstrates Council’s commitment to working in partnership with the local food industry to ensure food is safe for consumers.

To achieve a five-star food safety rating, Glen Eira businesses must:

  • operate in accordance with Victorian food safety laws;
  • pass Council’s food hygiene questionnaire;
  • pass all food sampling results;
  • have no justified complaints within the previous 12 months; and
  • achieve a low-risk rating and a compliance score of 95 per cent or above with National Food Safety Standards.
