We welcome the Royal Commission Interim Report on antisemitism and social cohesion

We welcome the release of the Interim Report of the Royal Commission into Antisemitism and Social Cohesion and will carefully consider its findings and what they mean for our community.

We will take the time to review the Interim Report’s early findings, continue listening to our community, and reflect on the local implications for Glen Eira. We are also continuing work on our own submission to contribute to the next stage of the Royal Commission.

Antisemitism has a profound impact on community life. Addressing it requires leadership, coordination and a shared commitment across all levels of government and the community. The Interim Report highlights the important role local government plays in supporting safety, sharing information, reinforcing values of inclusion and respect, and providing visible leadership during periods of heightened risk.

While the report focuses largely on counter-terrorism arrangements, it also identifies the importance of strong risk management for community events, including at a local level. We look forward to seeing social cohesion and broader community impacts explored further in the Commission’s final report.

We remain committed to standing with our Jewish community and continuing our work to promote safety, inclusion and respect for everyone who calls Glen Eira home. Antisemitism has no place in our community.
