We’ve upgraded one of the rooms at Caulfield Park Pavilion to be a neurodivergent-friendly space.
The upgrade includes noise-cancelling headphones and sensory kits, dimmable lighting and soft furnishings which provide a safe place for individuals to emotionally regulate and calm themselves when they’re feeling overstimulated.
For many people with sensory sensitivities, simply having somewhere to retreat can make a huge difference in how safe and supported they feel in a public space.
This upgrade fills a gap in Glen Eira and greater Melbourne, because there are very few hireable community spaces that are genuinely sensory-inclusive. It responds to local growing community demand for sensory-considerate spaces and aligns with our commitment to improve accessibility, reduce barriers to participation and increase the use of community venues.
By providing safe, supportive environments, we’re making it possible for people to participate in community activities and events rather than opting out or feeling excluded. Inclusion isn’t just about access to a building — it’s about feeling welcome, safe and able to belong once you’re inside.
