New Mayor elected for 2021–22 Council year

At a Council Meeting on Wednesday 3 November, Tucker Ward Councillor Jim Magee was elected Mayor of Glen Eira for the 2021–22 Council year.

Cr Magee is serving his fourth term on Council. He served as Mayor in 2015 and Deputy Mayor in 2017 and 2020.

Cr Magee said that it was an incredibly proud moment to be elected as Mayor.

“To represent the residents of Glen Eira on a Councillor level is a privilege, but representing our Council as Mayor, is truly an honour,” he said.

“Over the next 12 months, I am looking forward to seeing a number of important capital works projects take shape, including the commencement of the Carnegie Memorial Swimming Pool redevelopment, and the completion of Lord Reserve Pavilion, Murrumbeena Community Hub and the Bentleigh Library and Youth Hub.

“It will also be very exciting to see Moongala Women’s Community House move into a new home at Moorleigh Village in Bentleigh East.”

Cr Magee’s family emigrated from Belfast, Northern Ireland in 1970. He is married with two sons and has lived in Bentleigh East since 1988. His weekdays involve work and Council commitments, and on weekends he is a keen bowler with the Coatesville Bowls Club

Tucker Ward Councillor Li Zhang, who is serving her first term on Council, was elected Deputy Mayor for the 2021–22 Council year.
