Mayor’s letter — Level Crossing Removal Project cycling corridor

The Mayor has written to residents about further Level Crossing Removal Project options for the cycling corridor between Caulfield and Glen Huntly Station.

I am writing to invite you to have your say on further options put forward by the Level Crossing Removal Project (LXRP) for a cycling corridor connecting Caulfield and Glen Huntly railway stations.

Council engaged with the community in January this year about a plan from the LXRP for a proposed cycling corridor along Queens Avenue.

Following that engagement Council resolved not to support any of the proposals but to call for improvements to the options and for the LXRP to work with Council and the community to achieve an outcome that balances safe cycling, residential amenity and tree retention.

The LXRP has now provided additional options for the proposed cycling corridor.

Council does not have a formal position on the LXRP’s latest options, but we support exploring new opportunities for this cycling corridor. This is an LXRP project and one that Council has an interest in if it can be successfully achieved. From Council’s perspective it is important the LXRP takes into account the views and needs of the community and also do what is necessary to enhance the local environment, including the replacement, protection and retention of trees as well as revegetation that will improve residential amenity in the area.

While Council officers have assessed the LXRP options from a technical and engineering perspective, including meeting with the LXRP weekly, we haven’t yet heard community views regarding amenity and impacts. Accordingly, before Council provides any recommendation to the LXRP, we want to gather feedback on the proposed options. We have heard already from many community members, and we urge you to share your views by completing our survey to help inform Council’s recommendations to the LXRP on any final option or options.

We are also holding two online community consultation sessions to provide the opportunity for you to share information and ask questions.

For more information and to have your say and to register for a community consultation session please visit our Have Your Say page at: www.haveyoursaygleneira.com.au/cycling-corridor The consultation will conclude on Wednesday 1 May.

Yours sincerely,

Cr Anne-Marie Cade

Mayor
