International Women’s Day 2024

Today we celebrate International Women’s Day, a global celebration of women's equality and the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of all women.

Each year, this day serves as a powerful reminder of the progress made towards gender equality and highlights the work that still needs to be done.

When reflecting on gender equality, Mayor Cr Anne-Marie Cade acknowledges that Glen Eira is making strong progress.

“We must also acknowledge that we have made significant progress when it comes to gender equality, but more work can be done. At Glen Eira, I’m so proud that six of our nine councillors are women.”

Glen Eira aspires to lead the way on gender equality, by acting on inequalities, ensuring that all voices are heard and that opportunities are offered fairly and equitably to employees of all genders.

Our International Women’s Day celebratory theme is ‘inspire inclusion’ supporting the United Nation’s encouragement to invest in women and accelerate progress.

Today we’re celebrating ‘inspire inclusion.’ To inspire inclusion means to celebrate diversity and empowerment today and beyond.

When we inspire others to understand and value women's inclusion, we forge a better world.

To Mayor Cr Anne-Marie Cade, ‘inclusion’ is more than just a word.

“It’s a way of life. It’s more than just being present, it’s about empowerment, being valued and acknowledged and listened to.”
