Help shape Glen Eira’s next Domestic Animal Management Plan

We’re developing a new Domestic Animal Management Plan (the Plan) for 2026–2029 — and we want to hear from you.

In 2024–25, more than 12,000 dogs and 4,000 cats were registered in Glen Eira. We know how much our community values their furry friends — pets bring joy, companionship and connection.

But when not well managed, animals can also cause nuisance or safety concerns. That’s why it’s important to have a clear and balanced approach that reflects the needs and expectations of both pet owners and non-pet owners in our growing city.

In June, we asked for your feedback on whether a cat curfew would be right for Glen Eira — and more than 3,000 community members had their say. We know this is something many of you care deeply about.

We’re now reviewing what you told us, and no decision has been made yet. Whatever the outcome, it will be reflected in our new Plan.

We want the Plan to be shaped by local voices and support a fair, community-first approach to managing animals in Glen Eira.

Your feedback on the draft Plan will help us improve how we:

  • promote responsible pet ownership in practical, effective ways
  • provide education, training and awareness programs
  • manage nuisance animals and reduce dog attacks
  • shape local animal management services and policies that reflect community values

Whether you own a pet or not, your views matter. Share your experiences, concerns or ideas — and help us create a safer, more harmonious community for everyone.

Have your say from Wednesday 3 September to Wednesday 1 October.
