Securing the investment that will keep Glen Eira thriving as we grow.
Glen Eira is growing fast — and we need the right investment to ensure it remains a great place to live.
That’s why Council has adopted its Advocacy Priorities 2026–2027, setting a clear agenda for how we will work with the Victorian and Australian Governments to deliver for our community.
As our population grows, so does demand for parks, community facilities and essential services. Without coordinated investment, growth can put pressure on the places people rely on every day.
Advocacy is how we respond — working with other levels of government to secure the funding, policy reform and partnerships needed to support our growing community.
Our priorities are grounded in what our community has told us matters most including:
parks, open space and recreation
roads, footpaths and transport connections
libraries and community facilities
waste services and everyday infrastructure.
These everyday services shape how people experience their neighbourhood — and they are central to maintaining liveability as our city grows.
Our Advocacy Priorities 2026–2027 focus on four key themes:
safe, supported and inclusive communities
future-ready places built for everyone
resilient communities running on clean energy
fair and sustainable funding and smarter partnerships
Across these themes, we’re advocating for investment in open space, community infrastructure, transport, climate action and essential services — alongside policy reform to support growing communities.
A key message underpins this work: growth only works if infrastructure keeps pace.
These priorities build on extensive community engagement and align with our Council Plan 2025–2029.
They also reflect a changing environment, including:
increasing pressure on local infrastructure and services
growing expectations around community safety and social cohesion
the need for stronger local climate action
ongoing financial pressures on local government.
With the 2026 Victorian state election approaching, Council will continue working closely with local Members of Parliament to progress priority projects and programs across each electorate.
These build on the detailed state election advocacy priorities already developed for Caulfield, Bentleigh and Oakleigh — ensuring our community’s priorities are clearly understood and ready for investment.
We cannot deliver this alone. By working in partnership with other levels of government, we can deliver better outcomes, supporting liveable neighbourhoods, stronger services and a more connected community.
Our focus is simple: making sure Glen Eira remains a great place to live, work and connect, now and into the future.
