Clean Up Australia Day

Join a local event and help care for Glen Eira’s parks, streets and waterways.

Clean Up Australia Day is a nationwide program that brings communities together to remove litter from local parks, waterways, streets, and public spaces.

It’s on Sunday 1 March, and registrations are now open to join or host a community clean-up event.

Join an existing clean up in Glen Eira

There are local clean ups happening around Glen Eira, including at:

Find an event near you and register at the Clean Up Australia Day websitehttps://register.cleanup.org.au/join-a-clean-up

Host your own clean up

You can also organise your own clean up with friends, neighbours, your school or community group.

If you’re thinking of hosting an event, consider targeting known litter hotspots such as:

  • Glen Huntly train station and surrounds
  • Bentleigh train station and surrounds
  • Glen Huntly Road, from Elsternwick Station to Hawthorn Road
  • Koornang Road, from Carnegie train station to Neerim Road
  • Caulfield train station and surrounds

For more information visit: https://register.cleanup.org.au/

For help choosing a location or for support from us, email recyclingandwaste@gleneira.vic.gov.au

What to bring

When you register, you’ll receive guidance on what’s provided and what to bring. As a general guide:

  • Wear sunsmart clothing and enclosed shoes
  • Bring a water bottle
  • Gloves and bags are provided for registered events

Why it matters

You’re helping protect our waterways and wildlife. Removing litter — especially small items like cigarette butts and plastic wrappers — helps stop pollution from reaching Elster Creek, Port Phillip Bay, and local habitats.

Disposal and support

Collected litter can go in your red kerbside bin or you can contact us for extra support on 9524 3333 or at recyclingandwaste@gleneira.vic.gov.au

Together, we make a difference. Even small actions add up. By working together, we create safer, cleaner, and more welcoming spaces for everyone in Glen Eira.
