Cat curfew to be discussed at upcoming Council meeting

Earlier this year, we asked for your thoughts on a potential cat curfew in Glen Eira. Thank you to everyone who took the time to share their views. Council will now consider the matter at its Ordinary Council Meeting on Wednesday 5 November 2025, starting at 7.30pm.

This conversation began with strong community support for keeping cats, and local wildlife, safer in Glen Eira. In 2023, more than 80 cats were impounded locally. Research shows that curfews can help reduce these risks, giving cats longer, healthier lives while also protecting native wildlife and reducing nuisance behaviour.

We are exploring three possible approaches:

  • A night-time curfew (sunset to sunrise)
  • A 24-hour curfew
  • No curfew, continuing with the current approach

Many of our neighbouring councils, including Port Phillip and Bayside, already have cat curfews in place. Your feedback has helped shape what might work best for Glen Eira.

Thank you again for being part of this important community conversation.
