Are You Safe at Home? Day 2026 – 11 May

We all deserve to be safe, respected and valued in all our relationships. No matter what form it takes, family violence is never acceptable. In 2026, the toll of violence against women in Australia remains devastating and unacceptable.

We all deserve to be safe, respected and valued in all our relationships. No matter what form it takes, family violence is never acceptable. In 2026, the toll of violence against women in Australia remains devastating and unacceptable.

Sadly, family violence is more common than many of us realise. Anyone can experience family violence, and anyone can help end it.

Because abuse often happens out of sight, it’s often the people closest to a person – their friends, family, neighbours or colleagues – who are the first to notice something is wrong.

Every May, we highlight this important issue by sharing information and resources from Safe + Equal.

This May, start the conversation.

If you’re worried about someone you know, it can be hard to know what to do. You don’t need to be an expert to help end family violence. By asking, listening and believing, you can make an enormous impact.

Ask – “Are you safe at home?”
Listen – to what they say without judgement.
Believe – what they tell you and offer support.
