Everyone should feel safe, respected and included in Glen Eira. However, recent data shows that antisemitism continues to have a significant impact on members of our community.
In 2025, Glen Eira accounted for 43 per cent of all reported antisemitic incidents in Victoria. While Council has existing initiatives to address racism, discrimination and promote social cohesion, the scale and nature of antisemitism in our community requires a more targeted approach.
To address this, we are developing an Antisemitism Strategy. The Strategy provides a focused two-year plan (2026–2028) that builds on existing social cohesion initiatives and outlines actions to strengthen community education and awareness, support those impacted, improve responses to incidents, and build partnerships to help prevent antisemitism and promote inclusion.
This work supports Council's Community Vision — Our Glen Eira: A thriving and empowered community working together for an inclusive and sustainable future. It is also an important part of Council's broader efforts to address racism, hate and discrimination, and to strengthen safety, inclusion and social cohesion across our municipality.
The Strategy will help lay the foundation for a broader Social Cohesion Strategy, recognising that addressing antisemitism is part of a wider commitment to building a respectful, inclusive and connected community for everyone.
We want the Strategy to be informed by the experiences of those most affected by antisemitism, while also reflecting the perspectives of the broader Glen Eira community. We invite community members to review the draft Strategy and share their feedback on how it can help create a safer, more inclusive and connected Glen Eira.
