Converting GESAC it to an all-electric facility

We’re getting GESAC off gas energy and converting it to an all-electric facility.

Project snapshot

Status: In progress

Budget: $6.5m

Funding: Up to a $2.5 million grant under the Australian Government’s Community Energy Upgrades Fund. With Council matching and adding to that investment to reach the $6.5 million budget.

Timeline: Construction to start late-2026

What’s happening?

We’re getting GESAC off gas energy and converting it to an all-electric facility.

When is it happening?

The contract for the project was awarded to GHD in October 2025.

Construction is set to start in late-2026.

The project is due to be completed by mid-2027.

What short term impacts will the project have?

There may be occasional changes to services at GESAC during the construction phase. This could include, adjusted hours to pool opening times. We will keep the community informed around any disruptions via our communication channels.

What long term impacts will the project have?

By switching GESAC to an all-electric system, we’ll cut emissions by an estimated 1,810 tonnes per year — the equivalent of taking 663 cars off the road per year.

GESAC will join Carnegie Memorial Swimming Pool as all-electric facilities.

This forms a large part of our commitment to reaching our target of zero direct Council emissions by 2031.
