Ames Avenue, Carnegie open space

We’re creating public open space for our community to enjoy in Ames Avenue, Carnegie.

We now own two sites on Ames Avenue, including the former Rosstown Community Aged Care Facility. Together, they span just over an acre — about the size of Gardenvale Park.

The land has been cleared and grassed. It’s now open for community use while we work on securing the funds needed to fully transform it into a park.

This site will play a crucial role in providing open spaces for our community to enjoy, and our expanding focus on indigenous flora, natural gardens, and the enhancement of local biodiversity.

Long-term plans

The long-term designs of the space were developed in collaboration with the community in 2022 and endorsed by Council in 2023. Find out more about the engagement process.

The final design includes:

  • Garden beds and greenery, which includes climate-sensitive planting of both indigenous and exotic species
  • Lawn areas for relaxing and gathering
  • Seating and tables

A discovery garden for children of all abilities.

Funding

We’re continuing to advocate to the Victorian and Australian Governments for funding to support future upgrades to the space. Read more about our advocacy efforts and priorities.
