Municipal Public Health and Wellbeing Planning

We play a key role in enhancing the health and wellbeing of the local community.

Our municipal public health and wellbeing planning is integrated with the Council Plan 2025-2029 . We have done this to elevate our commitment to health and wellbeing and ensure we put planning for the health and wellbeing of our community at the heart of what we do.

The Glen Eira Council Plan 2025–2029 was adopted by Council on 28 October 2025. The plan guides how we will plan and support our community to enjoy good health and wellbeing and to be resilient at every stage of life for the next four years.

Health and wellbeing are central to every aspect of our work — not just in the Council Plan, but across all our strategic planning. Access to green spaces, housing, transport, safety, and social inclusion all shape people’s wellbeing. That’s why every strategic plan considers the impact it will have on community health, wellbeing, equity and inclusion.

You can find out more about the health status and health determinants of our residents in Glen Eira in our Summary Health and Wellbeing Profile.

Our health and wellbeing priorities

We gathered feedback from the community and stakeholders, along with a review of our local health data and existing strategies, to figure out the health and wellbeing priorities that matter most to us.

The Plan outlines five health and wellbeing priorities that aim to improve our community’s most pressing health and wellbeing concerns:

  1. Preventing all forms of violence, including family violence
  2. Increasing active living
  3. Improving wellbeing
  4. Reducing harm from tobacco, vaping, gambling and alcohol
  5. Tackling climate change and its impacts on health

Each year we will develop action plans throughout the life of the Council Plan. These documents will identify the activities we will undertake to meet each priority.
