Business Excellence Awards categories

There are six business categories and two community nomination categories. An additional category, Glen Eira Business of the Year will be selected by the Mayor from the winners in the business nominations categories.

Award categories

Emerging Business Award

The Emerging Business Award recognises Glen Eira businesses that have been operating for less than two years (ABN registered no earlier than January 2022) and have demonstrated outstanding potential and success.

The businesses will be assessed based on one or more of the following criteria:

  • Health and Wellbeing – initiatives and programs that made contributions to improving health or wellbeing.
  • Diversity and Inclusion – initiatives and programs addressing diversity and inclusion.
  • Customer Success – initiatives and programs demonstrating a commitment to outstanding customer service.
  • Innovation – how new services, products or business models impacted business performance.

Health and Wellbeing Award

This Health and Wellbeing Award recognises Glen Eira businesses that have made significant contributions to improving health and wellbeing outcomes.

The businesses will be assessed based on:

  • Initiatives and programs prioritising health and wellbeing in their business or community
  • Strategies and measures prioritising health and wellbeing.

Diversity and Inclusion Award

The Diversity and Inclusion Award celebrates businesses that demonstrate a commitment to diversity and inclusion in their workplace or community.

The businesses will be assessed based on:

  • Initiatives and programs addressing equal opportunities and inclusive work environments that embrace people of diverse backgrounds.
  • Strategies and measures prioritising diversity and inclusion.

Customer Success Award

The Customer Success Award recognises businesses that excel in delivering exceptional customer service experiences.

The businesses will be assessed based on:

  • Initiatives and programs demonstrating excellent customer service.
  • Strategies and measures prioritising excellence in customer service.

Innovation Award

The Innovation Award recognises businesses that have introduced innovations which positively impacted their business, industry, market, or community.

The businesses will be assessed based on:

  • New products, services or business models that led to innovative impact and improved business performance.
  • Strategies and measures prioritising innovation.

Sustainability Award

The Sustainability Award recognises businesses with commitment to sustainability and positive impact on the environment.

The businesses will be assessed based on:

  • Initiatives and programs focused on sustainability, circular economy and the environment.
  • Strategies and measures prioritising sustainability, circular economy or the environment.

Glen Eira Business of the Year Award

Entrants in the business categories are eligible to be considered for the Glen Eira Business of the Year. The winner of this category will be selected by the Mayor.

Community Nominated Awards

Community Nomination — Business of the Year Award

The Community Nomination — Business of the Year Award allows members of the community to nominate a business of their choice.

This category celebrates businesses that demonstrated leadership, entrepreneurship, and a strong commitment to supporting community, economic development, and social responsibility. Nominations by others and self-nominations are welcomed.

Community Nomination — Entrepreneur of the Year Award

The Community Nomination — Entrepreneur of the Year allows members of the community to nominate an individual of their choice to celebrate exceptional entrepreneurs who have made significant contributions to the local community through their vision, leadership, and business achievements.

Nominations by others and self-nominations are welcomed. Entrepreneurs who demonstrated leadership, innovation, resilience, and a positive impact in the community.


Reasons to nominate a business or entrepreneur

  • Raising the profile of your business.
  • An opportunity to reflect on and celebrate your businesses achievements with your staff and community.
  • The opportunity to network with local business owners at the Awards Night and congratulate the winners.
  • All entrants will be listed on our website and receive a certificate for participation.
  • Finalists will receive a certificate and will be included in a booklet promoted at our event and to our business community.
  • Along with a certificate and gift, winners will also receive a photo opportunity with the Mayor, promotion on Council’s website and Glen Eira News along with digital business awards branding materials to use for their business recognition.

Assessment process

All entrants will undergo a due diligence and an assessment process.

The community category nominations will be assessed based on the greatest number of valid nominations per single business/entrepreneur.

All winners will be endorsed by Council.

Can I make changes after I submit my nomination?

Submitted applications are final and changes cannot be made.

Can I apply if I have a few offices?

Your head office must be within Glen Eira.

Can I apply if I applied in last year’s Glen Eira Business Excellence Awards?

Yes, entrants, finalists and winners from last year can apply for the Glen Eira Business Excellence Awards 2024.

In how many business awards categories can I self-nominate my business?

You can self-nominate your business in the Community Nomination – Business of the year and in only one of the business nomination categories.

In which categories can I nominate a local business or entrepreneur?

You can nominate a local business or entrepreneur in the community categories: Business of the Year or Entrepreneur of the Year.

How can I enter the Glen Eira City Council – Business of the year category?

When you apply for one of the business nominations categories you are eligible to be considered for the Glen Eira Business of the Year.

Do I need to register to attend the Awards night?

Yes, tickets for the Awards Night will go on sale closer to the event.
