Statement of significance:

This tree fulfils the criteria of:

  •  Aesthetic value

These 6 young-mature trees are all healthy and well-formed examples of Variegated English Elms. They are some of the most notable trees within the street reserve that runs along the outside of the eastern Boundary of
Caulfield Racecourse and are likely the last remnant of a more continuous street planting of English Elms. The rest of the trees appear to have been removed many years ago, with remnant root stock resulting in new shoots
establishing along Queens Avenue.

These trees stand out amongst the mixed vegetation within this street reserve and provide substantial canopy coverage for the area, making a major contribution to the local landscape and providing amenity to the community. As variegated specimens, with the distinctive white mottling on their leaves, they are particularly noticeable and important to the neighbourhood character.
