Statement of significance:

This tree fulfils the criteria of:

  • Particularly old specimen
  • Aesthetic value

This Common Pear is reportedly the sole surviving tree from orchard farms that were in the area prior to housing development. Still producing fruit, this tree is estimated to be approximately 100 years old, making it a venerable example of the species. It is also uncommon to find large, mature fruiting pears in the urban environment as gardens have increasing planted more ornamental varieties.

The tree also provides substantial aesthetic value and amenity to the surrounding properties as a sizeable, mature tree in an area with relatively few canopy trees remaining.
