Statement from the Chief Executive Officer

Council’s Municipal Building Surveyor recently conducted a series of routine inspections of Council buildings.

As a result of those inspections, Carnegie Library and Community Centre has been identified as having flammable cladding in part of its construction on the upper level.

As a precautionary measure, I have today requested that officers close the upper level of the Library to staff and community access while further testing is done, and if necessary, rectification works are undertaken.

While I appreciate that there may be some inconvenience, the safety of community and staff is my first priority. Council officers will assist users of the community meeting rooms to book alternative Council facilities for their meetings and events.

Rebecca McKenzie
Chief Executive Officer
