    Statement from Glen Eira Mayor Cr Simone Zmood on East Melbourne Synagogue Attack

    I am appalled and heartbroken by the attack on the East Melbourne Hebrew Congregation during Shabbat and hate-filled protests at the Miznon Restaurant in the Melbourne CBD.

    I want to extend our heartfelt thoughts to the members of the East Melbourne Synagogue community and patrons of Miznon. The trauma and horror of these attacks — especially during Shabbat — is unimaginable. Please know that Glen Eira stands with you and we share in your sorrow.

    To our Jewish community in Glen Eira: we see you, we support you, and we will continue to stand with you.

    To all Glen Eira residents: now more than ever, let’s come together, support each other, speak out against hate, and reaffirm the values of respect, inclusion and unity that make our city strong.
