Government announces funding for upgrade of sportsground lighting

The State Government will provide $300,000 towards the upgrade of sportsground lighting at Bentleigh Hodgson Reserve and McKinnon Reserve.

The State Government will provide $300,000 towards the upgrade of sportsground lighting at Bentleigh Hodgson Reserve and McKinnon Reserve.

Announced last night by Member for Bentleigh Nick Staikos, the new lighting will allow sporting clubs better usage of the grounds.

The funding will allow for new sportsground lighting poles with LED light fittings to be installed at both reserves, resulting in improved lighting of these sportsground surfaces with minimal to no impact on the surrounding amenity.

Glen Eira Mayor Cr Tony Athanasopoulos thanked the State Government for the generous contribution, which will be provided through a $60 million Community Sports Fund.

"Funding for both of these projects will enable more sporting events such as football to be scheduled at night," he said.

"This will assist in accommodating the increase in participation rates in sport."

Cr Athanasopoulos said the introduction of LED lighting into our reserves supports the increasing need for sustainable and energy efficient systems.

"Industry experts advise that LED lighting has an estimated reduction of 65 per cent of total running and maintenance costs when compared to the standard lighting systems currently installed," he said.
