A win for Glen Eira — reduction in appeals at VCAT

The number of Council’s planning decisions appealed to the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT) has steadily reduced.

As part of VCAT’s 2019–20 Annual Report, a list of the top 20 number of VCAT applications by Victorian councils is included.

Glen Eira Mayor Cr Margaret Esakoff said since a review of Council’s Urban Planning team’s services, the number of VCAT appeals has reduced.

“We have gone from topping the list in 2015–16 with 214 appeals and named in the top three in 2014–15 and 2016–17, to not featuring at all in the top 20 in 2019–20, with only 32 applications reviewed,” she said.

“This decrease reflects the increased engagement that our Urban Planning team has had with all stakeholders of planning applications since its review, resulting in increased negotiations with applicants to resolve the key concerns of Council and affected residents.”
