Council meeting snapshot for 3 February 2026

Glen Eira City Council met on Tuesday 3 February for the first Ordinary Council Meeting of the year.

Council considered several matters of community interest, including a local petition, planning matters and an update to a key policy.

Petition regarding Greenmeadows Park playground

Council received a petition signed by 214 community members requesting a fence around the playground at Greenmeadows Park in St Kilda East. The petition raised safety concerns due to the playground’s proximity to nearby roads. It also asked Council to consider a Shabbatfriendly toilet facility.

Council received and noted the petition and referred it to Council officers for investigation. A detailed response will be provided to the submitter.

Heritage Planning Scheme Amendment – Caulfield South and Gardenvale

Council considered submissions received for Planning Scheme Amendment C260glen, which proposes new Heritage Overlay protections for 15 individual places, three precincts and one group listing in Caulfield South and Gardenvale.

This amendment is part of Council’s ongoing work to identify and protect places of cultural heritage significance across Glen Eira.

We received 10 submissions during public exhibition, including four opposing submissions. Council resolved to refer all submissions to an independent Planning Panel for further consideration as part of the formal amendment process.

Asset Management Policy adopted

We adopted the updated Asset Management Policy. The policy sets the framework for how Council plans, maintains and renews community assets such as roads, footpaths, parks, buildings, drainage and recreational facilities.

It aims to ensure these assets are managed in a consistent, sustainable and financially responsible way so they continue to meet community needs now and into the future.

The policy also strengthens how Council prioritises maintenance and renewal works, supports longterm planning and helps ensure public infrastructure remains safe, functional and fit for purpose.
