Mackie Road acquisitions

The future of Mackie Road Reserve as a community sporting hub is looking bright with the announcement this week that Glen Eira City Council is in the process of finalising its purchase of two adjoining properties.

The properties at 64 and 66 Mackie Road, Bentleigh East will help to address some of the space constraints of Mackie Road Reserve, which is facing growing pressure from various sporting clubs and casual users.

Council’s Director Infrastructure and Open Space Niall McDonagh said Glen Eira has the least amount of open space in metropolitan Melbourne.

“With the purchase of these neighbouring properties we have the exciting opportunity of enlarging Mackie Road Reserve to provide better access and interface to the Reserve from Mackie Road,” Mr McDonagh said.

“The acquisition of the properties will enable the creation of a master plan which will guide future development and investment.”

The master plan will be consulted widely with the community, and will encompass all buildings, activities and seek to provide for additional opportunities. This is timely given the main sporting pavilion is due for renewal in the coming years.
