Glen Eira Sustainability Report 2019–2020

The Glen Eira Sustainability Report 2019–20 highlights Council’s key sustainability achievements for the year and shows the community how we are tracking towards our zero net emissions targets.

Glen Eira Mayor Cr Margaret Esakoff said since our baseline year of 2014–15, Council has reduced its emissions by 27 per cent.

“In 2019–20, we reduced carbon emissions from Council operations by 10 per cent, when compared with 2018–19,” she said.

“This decrease was primarily due to upgrading 1,315 street lights to energy-efficient LEDs and installing 19 new solar photovoltaic systems. We also decreased our water usage by 24 per cent.”

Other sustainability initiatives we delivered last financial year include a smart streetlight trial, which was an Australian first, the delivery of a successful weekly green bin and fortnightly red bin trial and the launch of a new Nature Next Door citizen science program.
