Council adopts East Village Planning Scheme Amendment C155

At a Council Meeting on Tuesday 7 July, Council adopted Planning Scheme Amendment C155 for the East Village precinct.

The new precinct, which runs from North Road to Virginia Park in Bentleigh East, was once an important industrial area that has seen the departure of many large-scale manufacturing businesses in recent years.

Glen Eira Mayor Cr Margaret Esakoff said since 2017, Council and the Victorian Planning Authority have been working in partnership to explore opportunities for revitalising the precinct, including a range of housing, community open spaces, as well as contemporary and innovative businesses that will continue to provide local employment.

“The East Village Planning Scheme Amendment, Structure Plan and proposed planning controls have undergone an extensive community engagement process and rigorous assessment of an independent Planning Panel over the last three years,” she said

“The aim of the future plan for East Village is to provide the needs of the new community within 20 minutes of where people live, including: parks, a new school, shopping, dining, jobs and access to public transport.

“The proposed planning controls outline a new plan that guides future land use including social and affordable housing, buildings, public spaces, parking and movement in line with the community’s shared future vision.”

Council will now submit the adopted Amendment C155 to the Minister for Planning for approval.
