Council secures funding for lighting upgrade at Centenary Park

The State Government will provide $165,000 towards the upgrade of sportsground lighting at Centenary Park in Bentleigh East.

The State Government will provide $165,000 towards the upgrade of sportsground lighting at Centenary Park in Bentleigh East.

Announced today by Minister for Sport John Eren and Member for Bentleigh Nick Staikos, the funding will allow for new sportsground lighting poles with LED light fittings to be installed on the main oval.

Council would also like to acknowledge a $40,000 contribution to this project from AFL Victoria as part of its ongoing commitment to supporting growth in the game.

Members of St Peters Junior Football Club were in attendance for the announcement, with Glen Eira Mayor Cr Tony Athanasopoulos thanking the State Government for the generous contribution.

“Funding for this project will enable more sporting events to be scheduled at night, including games and development programs,” he said.

“The new lighting will assist in accommodating the increase in participation rates in sport, particularly the growth currently being experienced within female sport.”

Cr Athanasopoulos said the introduction of LED lighting into our reserves supports the increasing need for sustainable and energy efficient systems.

“LED lighting has significantly reduced running and maintenance costs when compared to current lighting systems,” he said.
