19 December Ordinary Council Meeting will be hosted online

Our 19 December Ordinary Council Meeting — our final for the year — will be hosted online.

This decision was incredibly difficult to make, as we always value public attendance and participation at our meetings.

However, recent weeks have seen heighted tensions in the Glen Eira community in light of events overseas, which feel close to home for many in our diverse community.

We also saw dangerous conduct at our Special Council Meeting which put community members in danger and involved a person throwing an egg from the audience directly at Councillors causing injury.

We have an obligation to our Councillors, our staff and members of our community to feel safe and included at our Council meetings.

With this in mind, we’ve moved our next meeting online as we continue to assess ways to ensure our meetings are safe and inclusive for everyone going forward.

Members of the public can submit a written public question in line with our normal processes to the Council by midday Monday 18 December 2023.
