Staniland Grove streetscape improvements and toilet upgrade

We are upgrading Staniland Grove, Elsternwick, with new streetscape works and a modern public toilet to make the area safer, more accessible and welcoming for everyone.

What’s happening

We are delivering a new public toilet and a range of streetscape improvements to improve safety, accessibility and amenity in Staniland Grove. Works include:

  • Construction of a new, DDA‑compliant public toilet
  • Streetscape upgrades in line with the endorsed concept design
  • A raised wombat crossing at the intersection of Staniland Grove and Glen Huntly Road
  • New landscaping, seating and bike parking
  • Accessibility and safety improvements for pedestrians and road users.

The upgrades will improve safety, accessibility and amenity in Staniland Grove, making the area easier to navigate, more welcoming to spend time in, and better connected for pedestrians, cyclists and local businesses.

When works are happening

Works are expected to start late April 2026 and finish by late June 2026, weather permitting.

Construction will take place Monday to Friday between 7am and 5pm.

Temporary relocation of the Automated External Defibrillator (AED)

To support construction, the Automated External Defibrillator (AED) currently located on Staniland Grove, next to the public toilets, will be temporarily relocated to Glen Huntly Road during the works.

The AED will remain fully accessible throughout construction. Clear wayfinding signage will be installed at the usual AED location and along Glen Huntly Road to direct people to the temporary AED location, approximately 50 metres away.

Once construction is complete, the AED will be returned to its original location at Staniland Grove.

What to expect during construction

During works, residents, traders and visitors may notice:

  • Construction noise and dust associated with demolition and building works
  • Temporary road and footpath closures with detour signage in place
  • Changes to on‑street parking along Staniland Grove between Glen Huntly Road and the Elsternwick Library

Pedestrian access to shops will be maintained at all times, and contractors will work to minimise disruption where possible.

Safety and access during works

We will install clear signage and wayfinding throughout the area to support safe movement for pedestrians and road users during construction. Temporary traffic management and detours will be in place where required, and onsite signage will provide up‑to‑date information throughout the works.

Staying informed

We will continue to provide updates via its website and onsite signage during construction. Interpreter services are available for community members who need them.
