We have plans to upgrade Mackie Road Reserve in Bentleigh East to make sure it continues to meet the growing needs of our community.
Open spaces like Mackie Road Reserve in Bentleigh East are important places for our community to be connected and active. They’re a big part of our great quality of life here in Glen Eira.
Guided by our Mackie Road Reserve Masterplan, there are plans to make upgrades to the Reserve so that it continues to meet the growing needs of our community — now and into the future.
The Mackie Road Reserve Masterplan is our long-term blueprint that guides future upgrades of the Reserve. It includes a range of upgrades, such as:
It was developed in 2022 in collaboration with the community and was endorsed by Council in late 2022.
We are upgrading Mackie Road Reserve in Bentleigh East, replacing the existing pavilion with a new, modern and fit for purpose facility that better supports local sport and community use.
This project is part of our ongoing investment in community infrastructure to ensure facilities continue to meet the needs of a growing and changing Glen Eira.
We’re replacing the existing pavilion, which has reached the end of its useful life, with a new single-story pavilion. The project includes:
The new pavilion has been designed to be fit for purpose, accessible and flexible, supporting a range of users and activities now and into the future.
Construction is scheduled to:
Works will take place on weekdays.
During works:
Keep an eye on this page for updates — we will continue to provide updates throughout construction and work to minimise disruption where possible.
We worked closely with tenant sports clubs and the wider community to help shape the design of the new pavilion. Feedback from the community helped inform the final design, which was endorsed by Council in late 2024. We’re building a new off-leash dog park at the Orange Street end of Mackie Road Reserve in Bentleigh East, as part of the Mackie Road Reserve Masterplan. It’s being built on the vacant land next to the tennis courts and will include double gated entry gate, dog play and agility items, seating, shelters, drinking fountains and new plantings.
Works began in early June 2026 and are expected to be completed by mid-August 2026, weather permitting.
Works will take place weekdays between 7am–5pm. During this time, the vacant block will be temporarily fenced off. There will be some construction dust and noise, but our contractors will keep this to a minimum. There may also be a minor increase in heavy vehicle traffic in the area. There will be no impacts to kerbside waste collection, please place your bins out on their scheduled collection day.

We’ve made space for the future playground by purchasing and demolishing the properties at 64 and 66 Mackie Road.
With your help, we’ve also finalised the plans for the space. Highlights include:
These plans were endorsed by Council in late 2023.
Now, we’re working on getting the right funding so we can make it happen. We’re advocating to the Victorian and Australian Governments and applying for state and federal grants.
We’ll keep you updated with our progress.
