Footpath reconstruction — Gordon Street, Elsternwick (completed)

We’ve made Gordon Street in Elsternwick more accessible by upgrading the footpath and adding new street furniture.

Upgrades like these are important for the safety and wellbeing of our community — and they contribute to local amenity and the character of neighbourhoods, which we know is important to the community.

What did we do?

We replaced the footpath surface between 271 Glen Huntly Road and 11 Gordon Street, Elsternwick. Over six weeks in May and June 2025, we:

  • Replaced the existing kerb and channel.
  • Retained the existing street tree (out the front of the vacant building at 7 Gordon Street) and planted two new trees (out the front of Classic Cinema and Copycat Bar).
  • Replaced the existing litter bin.
  • Installed two new bench seats (out the front of Classic Cinema).
  • Retained the existing garden bed at the corner of Glen Huntly Road and Gordon Street and planted new shrubs and plants.
  • Installed two new bike hoops (out the front of Classic Cinema).

To support a greener Glen Eira, where possible, we use sustainable and environmentally friendly resources and processes as part of our projects. In these upgrades, we used a recycled crushed rock — a base layer below the footpath surface — which incorporates recycled crushed concrete, recycled asphalt and glass.
