Footpath and streetscape work near Caufield Racecourse

We are preparing to undertake footpath and streetscape upgrade works around the perimeter of Caulfield Racecourse, including Normanby Road, Station Street, Smith Street, Kambrook Road, Booran Road, and Neerim Road.

This is one of the many improvements we’re making across local shopping strips and activity centres to help create more welcoming, vibrant places for people to enjoy.

Safer, more accessible footpaths are a simple but powerful way to support the wellbeing of our community and protect the character of our neighbourhoods — things we know matter to you.

What is happening?

We are upgrading footpaths, kerbs, pram crossings, and garden beds around the Caulfield Racecourse precinct. These works will improve safety, accessibility, and amenity for all users. We have appointed Russo Paving Pty Ltd to undertake the works.

The works will be delivered in three stages:

  • Stage one: Normanby Road from Queens Avenue to Caulfield Station (six weeks)
  • Stage two: Station Street from Caulfield Station to Kambrook Road (six weeks)
  • Stage three: Smith Street, Kambrook Road, Booran Road and Neerim Road (one week)

To support a greener Glen Eira, we are using recycled crushed rock as base material for the concrete footpath and Porous Lanes around selected tree bases, and two garden beds on Normanby Road at the intersection of Smith Street and Normanby Road.

When is it happening?

Stage one will be commenced on Monday 12 January 2026, followed by Stage two and Stage three. All three stages are planned to be completed by Friday 10 April 2026, weather permitting. If works are delayed due to weather, we will update affected residents.

What are the impacts?

  • Access to business and the Caulfield Racecourse car park will not be affected.
  • Works will take place between 7.00am–4.30pm weekdays.
  • Some car spaces along Normanby Road and Station Street will be used by our contractors.
  • You may notice some noise and dust from the worksite, and our contractors will do their best to minimise this.
  • The footpath on the southern side of Normanby Road and Station Street will be closed in active work area during Stage one and Stage two
  • Small sections of the footpath will be closed off during Stages three.
  • Pedestrian detours will be clearly signed. If you require assistance, please speak to onsite staff.
  • For your safety, please follow all signage and instructions from onsite staff. Signage and traffic management will be in place as needed.
  • Kerbside waste collections will continue as usual. Please place your bins out on their scheduled collection day. If you need assistance moving bins through the worksite, our onsite contractors will be available to help.
