Join a leading Victorian sustainability program that helps schools save resources and act.
ResourceSmart schools program
ResourceSmart Schools (RSS) is Victoria’s flagship sustainability program for schools.
You can begin small — just one sustainability action per year gives you access to free resources, support, and guidance across waste, energy, water and biodiversity.
As your school builds confidence, you can take further steps at your own pace, with the option of working towards 5-Star ResourceSmart School status. With flexible modules and practical support, RSS helps you make sustainability a part of everyday learning. RSS also can help you imbed sustainability into school business management and operations.
Any Glen Eira school is eligible to join and receive access to a wide range of free curriculum‑aligned tools, activities and guidance to help your school plan, act and achieve sustainability outcomes.
Find out more about the program at CERES School of Nature and Climate or download our ResourceSmart School Brochure (PDF).
Container Deposit Scheme (CDS) School’s Champions Program
RSS have partnered with Victoria’s CDS to deliver a free program to help build student leadership, boost fundraising and drive real change by returning and recycling more containers in your school community.
The program includes free student incursions, a staff and/or parent consult and follow up support to keep you on track to reach your recycling goals. Visit the CERES website for more information.
Our collective impact adds up
Since 2008, the ResourceSmart Schools program has supported more than 1,600 schools to embed sustainability into their schools and communities. Collectively, these schools saved:
- $67 million on bills
- Diverted 180,000 cubic metres of waste from landfill
- Planted more than 5.1 million trees
- Saved 2.2 million kilolitres of water
- Saved more than 62,000 tonnes of CO2e greenhouse gas emissions
All while empowering students to be environmental leaders.
