Great Southern Bioblitz 2025

Join the Great Southern Bioblitz.

Do you want to learn about native plants and animals in Glen Eira, and be part of an international citizen science project to help scientists, schools and local communities protect local biodiversity?

If your answer is ‘yes’ join us in the Great Southern Bioblitz from Friday 24 October to Monday 27 October 2025!

Glen Eira is once again teaming up with councils and organisations across Greater Melbourne to compete with cities across the southern hemisphere. Last year our community helped put Melbourne on the map — and this year we want to make an even bigger impact!

The bioblitz is a great opportunity for southern hemisphere countries to document local plants, animals and other organisms and highlight local biodiversity to the world. It also provides the opportunity to make new scientific discoveries; your observation could be the key to finding a new species or discovering new facts about known species, such as observing them in places where they have never been recorded before.

Your contributions will help scientists, schools, and communities learn more about local species, plus you might discover something new!

Let’s put Glen Eira’s biodiversity in the spotlight — get involved and share what you find.
