Desex your pet

There are great benefits to owning a pet, but it’s also a big responsibility. Desexing is one of the most important things to think about when you get a pet. We highly recommend you desex your pet.

Why should I desex my pet?

The animal population is a significant issue for shelters and pounds across Victoria. Thousands of cats and dogs are euthanased every year, due to an over-supply of pets.

We recommend you desex your pet to:

  • prevent unwanted litters
  • reduce the population of unowned animals, particularly cats
  • reduce the high euthanasia rates of impounded animals
  • reduce the tendency for aggression and roaming

Can I get a registration discount for a desexed pet?

Yes. We offer a discount scheme to encourage you to register your pet. The scheme also aims to encourage the desexing of pets, particularly cats.

For your first registration, desexed dogs and cats will receive free registration for the next full year. So when you receive your next renewal, you’ll get a new tag and we’ll waive the renewal fee.

We also offer reduced fees for trained dogs.
