Celebrate National Carers Week
National Carers Week (10–16 October) is a time for everyone to recognise and celebrate the important contributions carers make to their families, friends and our community — especially during these challenging times.
This year’s theme ‘Millions of reasons to care’ will highlight the diversity of carers and their caring roles and is an opportunity to raise community awareness among all Australians. In Victoria alone, there are over 700,000 carers who look after a family member or friend with a disability, mental illness, chronic or terminal illness or an older person with care needs.
We recognise carers as people who provide unpaid personal care, support and assistance to another individual who is in need of support due to disability, a medical condition — including terminal or chronic illness — mental illness or who is frail and aged.
