National Carers Week — 13–21 October 2023

National Carers Week is a time to recognise and celebrate the outstanding contribution unpaid carers make to friends, family and neighbours — our local community.   

Events and activities

We recognise carers as people who provide unpaid care and support to family members and/or friends with a disability, mental illness, chronic health issue or an older person with care needs. Anyone at any time can become a carer. 

There are a variety of events and activities taking place throughout  National Carers Week. We invite carers who live, work or care for someone in Glen Eira to come and enjoy these activities: 


 

Pathway for Carers Social Connect Group

Come and meet other carers as part of our Pathways for Carers group. Enjoy a chat over a cuppa and a stroll around the local area followed by a complimentary relaxing Art Therapy class, with gentle guidance from the talented Cherie Ceberano at Caulfield South Community House. 

When: Friday 13 October 
Where: Caulfield South Community House, 450–452 Kooyong Road, Caulfield South 
Time: 10.20am for a 10.30am start

Rippon Lea Estate morning tea

Enjoy a morning tea at Rippon Lea Estate with other carers and then soak in the ambiance of the heritage-listed historic house through a self-guided tour. 

When: Tuesday 17 October, 10.20am for 10.30am morning tea and self-guided tour 11.30am–12.30pm 
Where: 192 Hotham Street, Elsternwick 
Cost: Free. Bookings required by Tuesday 10 October 

 


 

Going to the movies

Take some time out and lose yourself at a Classic Cinemas private screening.  

My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3 

The worldwide phenomenon My Big Fat Greek Wedding is coming back to theatres with a brand-new adventure. Join the Portokalos family as they travel to a family reunion in Greece for a heart-warming and hilarious trip full of love, twists and turns. Opa!

Glen Eira Sports and Aquatic Centre Tour and Coffee  

Join other carers for a tour at Glen Eira Sports and Aquatic Centre to find out more about the facilities and services available to you. Post tour join us for a coffee, snack and chat! 

When: Wednesday 18 October, 11am–11.45am
Where: GESAC, 200 East Boundary Road, Bentleigh

Cost:  Free. No booking required. ​


 

Carers exercise classes at Caulfield Recreation Centre

Come along, take a break and join other carers. Classes will include dance, yoga, circuit and pilates. You are welcome to attend classes every week or occasionally. The class during Carers week will be Zumba!

When:  Thursday 19 October, 11.30am–12.15pm
Where: Caulfield Recreation Centre, 6 Maple Street, Caulfield South
Cost: Free. Bookings required.

Stay around for a chat after class.


 

10 weeks for $100 membership at Glen Eira Leisure

In recognition of the contribution that carers make to the Glen Eira Community, Glen Eira Leisure is pleased to offer carers a great membership deal of 10 weeks for $100.
