Statement of significance:

This tree fulfils the criteria of:

  • Aesthetic value
  • Outstanding habitat and biodiversity value

Often confused with the more commonly planted and related Lilly Pilly, this Scrub Cherry is a large, healthy and well-formed example of the species. The tree is prominently located in front of a popular park and makes a substantial contribution to the local landscape and neighbourhood character, providing significant amenity to the community.

As a fruit producing native tree, it is a valuable food resource for a range oof native wildlife such as nectar feeding birds, possums and flying foxes. This is especially significant as the tree is within close proximity to the Elster Creek Trail which serves as a wildlife corridor throughout several municipalities.
