Glen Eira Sustainability Champions 2023

Congratulations to participants in our first Sustainability Champions program!  

Through the free 10-session program, participants were provided with training and support to help develop their sustainability ideas into local environmental projects.  

The program wrapped up in August, with participants developing the following projects:  

Carbon Karma: Offering an easy-to-use tool to cafés and other small businesses to help them understand their carbon footprint and make a positive environmental impact.  

Care for Nature Glen Eira: Supporting and inspiring the community to learn about and care for local ecosystems and wildlife through citizen science, sharing of resources and hosting community events.  

Climate Kin Network: Surveying the climate action community in Glen Eira to understand connections, create an artistic representation of the networks and hold a festive community get-together.    

Energy Smart: Pocket and Planet Friendly: Sharing their knowledge and experience to help people improve home energy efficiency, reduce their carbon footprint and shift to home electrification.  

Heat Aware: Engaging international students about the risk of heat stress during the Australian summer and helping them to be safe during heatwaves.  

(HERB)ville: Connecting people to share ideas and knowledge of growing plants to enable planting on residential nature strips.  

Streets Alive Glen Eira: Advocating for streets that are vibrant, safe and sustainable spaces for everyone, no matter their ability or mode of transport. 

Transition Glen Eira Sustainability Festival: Creating a festival to showcase sustainability activities to engage people in Glen Eira to better understand and adopt more sustainable lifestyle practices.

Our Sustainability Champions program can help turn your ideas into action.   

If you live, work or study in Glen Eira, our free 10-week sustainability-focused program offers training and support to help you create change and deliver local environmental projects.   

Participants have the opportunity to: 

• connect with other local people who are passionate about the environment and their community  
• be part of a growing movement of local people taking climate and sustainability action in Glen Eira 
• build their capacity to develop project ideas into real world action 
• gain an understanding of our climate and sustainability challenges and local environment 
• develop knowledge and skills around effective behaviour change, leadership and advocacy.
