The program supports young Glen Eira residents with opportunities so that they can continue to attain high results and improve in their chosen field. We
recognise young people who have achieved excellence in the fields of:

  • creative and performing arts
  • education
  • leadership
  • sport

Youth Excellence Awards Application Process


1. Read the Youth Excellence Awards Guidelines and assess eligibility

Eligibility checklist:

Is the applicant aged between 10 to 25?

Does the applicant live in the City of Glen Eira?

Is the activity organised by a confirmed recognised body?

Do you have a letter of selection?

Do you have a written reference pertaining to your field of excellence?


2. Visit SmartyGrants portal

3. Select the application form

4. Complete your application

Choose ‘Start a submission’ then ‘Login’ to SmartyGrants using an existing account or ‘Register’ a new account. To set-up a new account use your organisation’s email address as a username and create a password. Please ensure you record your login details. Once registered, you can then ‘Login’ and start an application.

SmartyGrants allows you to save your progress and return to your application at a later date and to also upload supporting documents.


5. Applications are assessed

Council officers check eligibility, assess applications, and make recommendations to a Community Grants Assessment Panel. Final funding approvals for all Grants and Awards with a monetary value are made by the Director Community Wellbeing under Council’s delegated authority


6. Notification of results

Applicants will be notified of the decision regarding their application. Funding round outcomes are typically scheduled in the following months:

  • September
  • December
  • March
  • June

Please note that it takes 12 or more weeks from date of submission for the assessment and outcome of an application.

To be eligible for consideration, applications must be submitted before the commencement of the proposed project or event.

Level of award funding

Allocations of awards will differ based on the level at which the applicant is applying. The level of awards are:

  • regional/state level up to $360
  • national level up to $600
  • international level up to $1,200
