Moving together: easier, happier, safer and greener

We want Glen Eira to be a community of child-friendly neighbourhoods that are connected to a network of vibrant and well-designed walkable activity centres — a community that will have a range of travel options to service all our needs.

To deliver this vision, in 2018, we launched the Glen Eira Integrated Transport Strategy 2018–2031 — a long-term plan that guides the development of Glen Eira’s transport system.

To keep up with community needs, we are refreshing the Strategy, focusing on the priorities for the next five years. This includes things like public transport, roads and footpaths, trails and paths, safety measures and charging for electric vehicles.

Draft Economic Development Action Plan 2024–2026

We are refreshing our approach to support the growth of our local economy and businesses.

Our aim is to respond to new opportunities and challenges while also assessing the impact of our existing programs and services.

We want Glen Eira to have a thriving and sustainable local business economy, working together to support growth, pride and investment, so it is a great place to work, shop and visit.

We are considering Glen Eira’s current economic landscape as it continues to evolve, to gather better evidence and data of local needs.

We want your feedback and ideas on the three key themes and actions identified that will direct Council’s focus on economic development and business support over the next two years.

Council meeting governance changes

Our Governance Rules and Meeting Procedure Local Law are the cornerstones of Council’s governance framework, supporting decision making at Council meetings in line with the Local Government Act 2020. 

We are proposing a range of changes that would affect how Council meetings operate. The most notable changes include:

• introducing acceptable behaviour rules for attendees to ensure the health and safety of Councillors, Council Officers and community members;
• introducing a Councillor's notice of motion and the option to revoke a motion; and
• clarification of the mayoral election process.

To implement these changes we are proposing an update focused on our Governance Rules. This would be supported by revoking the Council Meeting Procedure Local Law, introducing the Conduct at Meetings and Common Seal Local Law, and merging existing guidelines into a Public Participation Policy.

A new proposal for independent living services

Have your say on a proposal for the future of in-home care and social support services for Glen Eira residents.

Glen Eira and Bayside City Councils have been working on a proposal for Bayside to provide independent living services — also known as in-home care and social support services — to Glen Eira residents.

The proposal was developed in response to the Australian Government’s aged care reforms that make it hard for councils to continue to run services. Bayside is one of the few Victorian metropolitan councils set to provide aged care services once the Australian Government reforms are in place.

Help us plan for our 2024–25 Budget and Financial Plan

Our draft 2024–25 Budget and Financial Plan are available for public comment from Thursday 2 May 2024 to Friday 24 May 2024.

The draft documents are a response to the five strategic directions of our Council Plan 2021–25, aiming to deliver highly valued services and infrastructure and work collaboratively with and for the community.

We want our draft 2024–25 Budget and Financial Plan to strike the right balance between ambition for new initiatives, maintaining quality service delivery and remaining financially sustainable.

For the 2024–25 year, the Budget has been prepared in accordance with the State Government’s A Fair Go Rates System and the rate will increase by 2.75 per cent.

Our Biodiversity Plan

We are developing our first Glen Eira Biodiversity Plan. We need your help to protect our native species and improve our community’s connection to nature.

Protecting our native species requires the combined effort of everyone in Glen Eira, so we’re calling on you to help.

Biodiversity has wide reaching economic, environmental, and health and wellbeing benefits that support our ecosystems and protect our quality of life.

While Glen Eira has been urbanised for many decades, there are still some local places where native indigenous species have survived. When managed in the right way, our urban environment can both protect and promote biodiversity.

Glen Eira Community Voice
