Reduce, reuse, recycle – circular economy style

We’re celebrating National Recycling Week this November with a month of activities exploring ways to reduce, reuse, recycle – circular economy style! For 30 days of actions and tips to reduce waste visit www.gleneira.vic.gov.au/low-waste

Celebrating our achievements

Our community is composting and recycling more of our resources than ever before – with at least 60 per cent of household waste being diverted from landfill. Thank you for your efforts to reduce waste and recycle correctly.

This year, Glen Eira has saved over 10,000 tonnes of food and garden waste from going to landfill by using our weekly green bins. That’s the same weight as the Eiffel Tower!

Instead, our food scraps and green waste get turned into compost and used on Victorian farms and gardens – including our local community gardens.

It’s a truly circular process and an example of how we can rethink waste to be a resource.

Last year, Council worked with our community to create the Glen Eira Circular Economy Plan 2022-26 – one of the first of its kind in Australia.

A circular economy may sound like a new buzzword, but it actually means circling back to basics. Back to the days of things being reused, repaired and made to last.

A circular economy goes beyond recycling and aims to design out waste from the start.
