Disability Action Plan 2017–2021 themes
Theme one – promote inclusion and participation
Local opportunities for social connection, involvement and inclusion are essential for people with disabilities to participate in community life. This theme aims to deliver inclusive and accessible programs and events that support the needs and goals of people with disabilities, their families and carers.
Theme two – increase awareness and help shape community attitudes
People with a disability want to be accepted and included in a community which celebrates diversity. This theme aims to promote positive attitudes and raise awareness of the issues facing people with a disability.
Theme three – create accessible places, spaces and services
Well maintained infrastructure such as roads, footpaths and parklands make it easier and safer for people with disabilities to study, work, shop and relax. This theme aims to create inclusive and accessible areas that respond to the needs and goals of people with disabilities, their families and carers.
Theme four – enhance opportunities for participation in civic life
Many people with disabilities would like to work but face barriers finding employment. This theme aims to enhance opportunities for people with disabilities to get involved in employment and volunteering. This will help them to make friends, build confidence and learn new skills.
